Artists in Residence:
Every year in Charlottesville, Tom Tom hosts Artists in Residence which showcases specific artists who are working on public art in the community, or causing the public to engage with creative ideas.
Some two hundred speakers will explore innovative ideas about education, technology, leadership, and entrepreneurship… with many of the themes emerging from The University of Virginia, the Charlottesville community, and beyond. Each of these brief talks delve into cutting-edge research and reveal new ways of thinking and experiencing the world.
Tom Tom is a local and “friends of friends” festival, with more than 60 musical acts (almost all free) representing a broad swath of genres, including folk, hip-hop, Americana, electronica, R&B, rock, bluegrass, funk, and more. In addition, the venues are as unique as the artists, including historic schools, front porches, parks, art museums, library steps, and breweries.
Founding C’ville Project – highlights local founders, artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders whose groundbreaking work has impacted Charlottesville and the world;
City Art Bus – serves as a moving mural and is seen by 200,000 people every year;
Fellowships – expands academic rigor into practice-based curriculum in arts, business and society by connecting students with entrepreneurs and thought leaders. Sixteen fellowships were offered last year;
Mural Project – engages local and regional artists at multiple sites throughout Charlottesville, and inspires citizens to see public places in new and imaginative ways;
The Founders Summit – combines talks, workshops, mixers, and exclusive access to the Nation’s leading founders and entrepreneurs;
The Future Forum – visionary local leaders discuss Charlottesville’s future as a growing hub for creativity and entrepreneurship;
The Youth Summit – a student-planned, student-led convening of high school students, educators and civic leaders from across Virginia;
Innovations in Democracy – On Thomas Jefferson’s birthday, assess where we are in our nation’s great experiment;
Investor Summit – a mid-Atlantic convening of angels, VCs, and investment stakeholders;
Tech Mixer – get connected to more than 100+ regional tech firms as they network and recruit at the Friday night block party;
Crowd-Funded Pitch Night – your three minute chance to share your vision with the community and inspire the crowd;
Porchella – local musicians play on the porches of the historic Belmont neighborhood as the sun sets;
Iron Chef Competition – six contestants will have an hour to buy ingredients at the Farmers Market and create a special brunch dish to be judged by a panel;
Community Picnic – share a meal with Charlottesville neighbors and help kick-off the Tom Tom Founders Festival at a special all-local showcase at IX Art Park;
Food Truck Rally – the best local and regional food trucks gather in Lee Park bringing delicious food to the block parties;
Picnic Day in Lee Park – the final concert series of Tom Tom features a diverse array of local performers in the midst of crafts, and great local food trucks;
Craft Cocktail Competition – local bartenders create “Tom Tom” cocktails featuring local ingredients in the spirit of friendly competition;

So here are the details you need to know: It’s all taking place between April 10th and 16th, 2017 at more than 50 venues throughout Charlottesville, Virginia. Much of the festival is free, but some events require tickets and registration. You can register right here.
As the venues are spread throughout downtown, the parking situation varies. Charlottesville offers plenty of parking, just plan on having to walk a bit.
