We are deeply honored to announce our selection as one of the ‘2015 Top Ten Romantic Inns’ by American Historic Inns and www.iloveinns.com.
In their 22nd year of selecting the best inns for romantic getaways, the hospitality professionals from iloveinns.com considered more than 20,000 inns throughout the country before compiling this prestigious listing. Among the attributes considered were our “deep commitment to excellence”, as well as our scenic and pastoral setting, historic décor, award-winning restaurant, pampering amenities, and a healthy dose of Virginia hospitality.
- Having to do with a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement and remoteness from everyday life, often associated with love.
Lots of terrific inns offer creative romantic amenities, such as roses, chocolate-covered strawberries, and couples massages… and so do we. But if true romance is really deeper than that… “feelings of love, mystery and remoteness from everyday life”, then romance is our middle name at Prospect Hill. We think today’s busy couples need, first and foremost… time. Alone time. Couch time, we call it in our family… togetherness. So it’s no surprise when guests discover that there are no televisions at Prospect Hill… not a single one. Yea, he may give you a beautiful bouquet of roses, or a decadent box of your favorite chocolates, but if he immediately turns on “Sportscenter”… is that really romantic? Though Prospect Hill is located only 4 miles from an Interstate and only 15 miles from Charlottesville, our grounds feel as if we are 300 years away. The sounds of our silence, and the brightness of our stars are a few of those intangibles so many couples have slowly forgotten about. Eight of our accommodations are in the cutest, most charming cabins and cottages throughout the plantation. And we’re not talking about glorified utility sheds, as many inns are building to hop onto the cottage rage. No, we’re talking genuine, historic plantation dependencies… slave cottages, carriage houses, summer kitchens, overseer’s cottages, etc. In fact, our “newest” cottage was built in 1870… more than 140 years ago!
Scattered throughout our grounds are numerous sitting areas (conveniently designed for just two)… some facing the sunrise over the pond, others facing the setting sun beyond the pastures; Some secluded along the nature trails, while others offer prime seating to watch the frolicking alpacas. Twelve of our 13 rooms have real, wood-burning fireplaces… already set to light upon your arrival, and with all the firewood a guest may need. Like most inns, we offer a full, hot, gourmet breakfast, but we’ll offer to deliver it right to your cottage on an over-sized tray… true breakfast-in-bed! Want whirlpool tubs (indoors or outdoors)… we’ve got that covered. How about a chauffeured tour of any of the 20 local wineries… we’ll help arrange that! Complimentary bottle of wine awaiting your check-in… already done!
“And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, in dimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.” ― Pico Iyer
If yours is a romantic and travel-loving soul, perhaps you resonate with this. Travelers seek out excitement and the rich happiness that comes from discovering unknown experiences… and we seek out romance for many of the same reasons. So if you are yearning for a weekend getaway to fulfill your romantic wishes and satisfy your wanderlust, or if you’ve been promising each other a getaway… look no further than Prospect Hill.
